The Designated Parking Permit Program serves approximately 7,300 Islanders with various disabilities and conditions and allows them to have easier access to facilities throughout our Island community.
Parking permits are for those "unable to walk more than 75 metres without serious difficulty or danger to safety or health" and allow permit holders to park in specially designated parking spots.
Designated parking allows accessibility for many people with disabilities and allows them to maintain a certain level of independence.
Most provinces, states, or countries in the developed world have a body that issues permits to individuals who need to use designated parking. ResourceAbilities is the body recognized internationally as the one authorized to do so in Prince Edward Island.
To access Designated Parking Permit for the fist time or a Temporary Parking Permit you must present a signed application from a medical professional at a ResourceAbilities office.
Permit renewals for 2026 are available on or after November 10, 2025.
You must have purchased a parking permit for the previous year in order to complete an online purchase. If you did not purchase a permit for the previous year, please contact our office.
